of course &#8230; love.\u00c2\u00a0 As burrows\u00c2\u00a0are displaced by development,\u00c2\u00a0the challenge of finding a\u00c2\u00a0mate\u00c2\u00a0grows more difficult.\u00c2\u00a0 As the human urge to &#8220;control&#8221; hard to verify in the above two-dimensional photograph &#8230; in the center posterior of\u00c2\u00a0his plastron and by the gular protrusion at the plastron anterior under his chin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/008-480.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9842\" title=\"008 480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/008-480.jpg\" alt=\"008 480\" width=\"480\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/008-480.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/008-480-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Humans Remove &#8220;Invasive&#8221; Vegetation\u00c2\u00a0around Burrows<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">During Turtle Journal&#8217;s February 2012 inspection of\u00c2\u00a0Vanderbilt habitat, we noticed that people had begun to clear vegetation from around these tortoise burrows.\u00c2\u00a0 When asked what they were doing, workers said that they were removing &#8220;invasive&#8221; vegetation.\u00c2\u00a0 While we can&#8217;t and don&#8217;t dispute this claim, the clearing did\u00c2\u00a0seem more global than targeted against specific species.\u00c2\u00a0 We wonder how tortoises will fare on these largely denuded sites and hope that seasonal growth will quickly\u00c2\u00a0restore forage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/017-840.jpg\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9850\" title=\"017 480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/017-480.jpg\" alt=\"017 480\" width=\"480\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/017-480.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/017-480-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><strong><em>Tortoise Disturbed Crossing Beach &#8220;Highway&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Another challenge confronting these gentle reptiles on the Gulf Coast is the constant vehicular traffic along the luxury beachfront.\u00c2\u00a0 Whether &#8220;sweeping&#8221;
