style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Night patrol hit the beaches of Eastham, Wellfleet and Truro about 8 p.m., a little after high tide.\u00c2\u00a0 Temperature hovered around 30 with a snappy west-northwest breeze.\u00c2\u00a0 Bob Prescott, the Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary director, spotted \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a rock where there shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have been one\u00e2\u20ac\u009d off the Eastham beach near Cole Road.\u00c2\u00a0 He plunged into the frigid surf and retrieved Barnacle Bill, a nearly 68-pound loggerhead being tossed ashore in the rising tide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/12\/12-07-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4613 aligncenter\" title=\"12-07-2\" justify\">As the name implies, his carapace was encrusted from head to tail with barnacles, some of which wrapped around and under his top shell.\u00c2\u00a0 Whole communities of critters had taken residence on this nearly two-foot square mobile reef.\u00c2\u00a0 With a sharp knife, barnacles were removed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><a justify\">His carapace was cleaned and sterilized, and his flippers were jellied to prevent dehydration, giving Bill that moist and glossy look so sought after in loggerhead pinups.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Despite an internal body temperature of only 33.7\u00c2\u00b0F, Bill seems remarkably active and responsive.\u00c2\u00a0 He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s resting the night in a dark 50-degree recovery room, waiting for tomorrow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s trip to the New England Aquarium and the beginning of his voyage back home to the
