center\"><strong><em>December Brewster Beach at Sunset<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Sunset and high tide converged last night in an explosion of symphonic colors as we patrolled Brewster beaches in search of cold-stunned sea turtles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/12\/12-03-2-480.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" center\"><strong><em>63-Pound Juvenile Loggerhead Victim of Shark Attack<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">At Saints Landing the largest turtle of the season to date came ashore: a loggerhead weighing 63 pounds and measuring nearly 55 centimeters carapace length.\u00c2\u00a0 This critter \u00e2\u20ac\u201d with a missing right rear flipper and a 26-centimeter bite ripped out of its right rear quadrant \u00e2\u20ac\u201d had been the victim of a shark attack.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/12\/12-03-3-480.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4597\" title=\"12-03-3 480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/12\/12-03-3-480.jpg\" alt=\"12-03-3 480\" width=\"480\" height=\"515\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/12\/12-03-3-480.jpg 480w, center\"><strong><em>Large Shark Tooth Clearly Visible in Notched Shell<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Close inspection of the wound clearly shows the outline of the shark\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s tooth notched in the shell.\u00c2\u00a0 From the extent of healing and parasites, such as mussels growing in the wound, we can deduce that the turtle survived the shark strike that occurred at least some time in the past.\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, exacerbated by cold-stunning, which dropped its internal body temperature to 39.4\u00c2\u00b0F, this loggerhead did not live through the night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Three dead Kemp\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ridley sea turtles came ashore this morning on Brewster beaches.\u00c2\u00a0 They all measured around 31 centimeters carapace length and weighed a little over 4 kilograms.\u00c2\u00a0 Totals as of this morning are 30 ridleys and two loggerheads for the fall stranding
