Kemp&#8217;s Ridley Rescued from Eastham Beach<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">This morning a beach walker discovered a Kemp\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ridley sea turtle north of Kingsbury Beach in Eastham.\u00c2\u00a0 Showing no obvious signs of life, the turtle was left exposed on a washed-ashore tire.\u00c2\u00a0 Hours later, the discoverer phoned the Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary to report finding \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a dead turtle.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-2-480.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4488\" title=\"11-19-2 480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-2-480.jpg\" alt=\"11-19-2 480\" width=\"480\" height=\"473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-2-480.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-2-480-300x295.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><strong><em>Don Lewis Examines Cold-Stunned Kemp&#8217;s Ridley<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Cold-stunned and now further chilled and dehydrated from exposure, this plucky juvenile still clung to life.\u00c2\u00a0 At only 9.5 inches long and less than 5 pounds, she had lost considerable body heat, registering an internal temperature of only 52\u00c2\u00b0F, and she had sustained some nasty cuts and abrasions as she was driven helplessly ashore.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-3-480.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4489\" title=\"11-19-3 480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-3-480.jpg\" alt=\"11-19-3 480\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-3-480.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-3-480-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><strong><em>Kemp&#8217;s Ridley Stabilized for Emergency Trip to Boston<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Her partly opened eyes, which displayed no movement, were cleaned and dowsed in a protective ointment.\u00c2\u00a0 Her nose had been bruised and bloodied in beaching, as had the side of her head, underneath her neck, and the nail area of her left rear flipper.\u00c2\u00a0 But to enhance her chance of survival, after a rocky start on the beach, we immediately rushed her to the New England Aquarium, where her injuries and hypothermic condition could be more aggressively treated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4490\" title=\"11-19-4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-4.jpg\" alt=\"11-19-4\" width=\"480\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-4.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/11\/11-19-4-300x274.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><strong><em>Turtle &#8220;Hand-Off&#8221; at Sagamore Bridge<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">The handoff took place at the Sagamore Bridge rotary, mid-way between Boston\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s New England Aquarium and Wellfleet Bay at the end of the universe.\u00c2\u00a0 The fifth Kemp\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ridley of the season sped off with NEAQ\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Marine Animal Rescue, along with our hopes and prayers for her recovery.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The important lesson for everyone associated with strandings is treat every beached critter as alive.\u00c2\u00a0 When dealing with the rarest and most endangered sea turtle in the world, always err on the side of life.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Live &#8220;Dead&#8221;
