mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Tiny 1-inch long, 1\/4 ounce terrapin hatchlings began to emerge from the September sands of Lieutenant Island in South Wellfleet on Saturday morning.\u00c2\u00a0 After a nesting season that was delayed two weeks by a cool and stormy spring,\u00c2\u00a0supplemented equally cool and rainy summer conditions that slowed down incubation, 41 hatchlings emerged from nests three weeks late in Saturday&#8217;s warmth and sunshine<\/span><\/span>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2009-first-hatchling-102-840.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"840\" height=\"587\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2976\" title=\"2009-first-hatchling-102-840\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2009-first-hatchling-102-840.jpg\" alt=\"2009-first-hatchling-102-840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2009-first-hatchling-102-840.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2009-first-hatchling-102-840-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><strong><em>Tiny, Dusty Hatchling Emerges from Dirt Road Nest<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 14pt;
