that is, if she&#8217;s seen at all by\u00c2\u00a0distracted drivers.\u00c2\u00a0 Luckily, in this case, our motorist recognized her as a turtle.\u00c2\u00a0 After rescuing\u00c2\u00a0her from the highway, he brought\u00c2\u00a0this Eastern box turtle\u00c2\u00a0to the nearby National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wareham-road-warrior-004-960.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11819\" title=\"Sierra Exif JPEG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wareham-road-warrior-004-480.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"364\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wareham-road-warrior-004-480.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.turtlejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wareham-road-warrior-004-480-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Rescued Female Eastern Box Turtle<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In turn, the National Marine Life Center called Turtle Journal and we picked\u00c2\u00a0her up\u00c2\u00a0this afternoon.\u00c2\u00a0 While we almost always return a specimen to the place where it was found, this Eastern box turtle called for a different approach.\u00c2\u00a0 The front of her carapace\u00c2\u00a0shows the sign of a previous encounter with a vehicle.\u00c2\u00a0 Her shell had been broken and had healed in the distant past.\u00c2\u00a0 Because the location where she was discovered today could be lethal, we plan to hold her until early October.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ll release her into a safe, known Eastern box turtle habitat just as she prepares to enter winter brumation.\u00c2\u00a0 When she awakens next spring, our hope is that she will have reset her geographic range &#8230;
